Team Jumbo-Visma Women comes up short in Tre Valli Varesine

In the Italian autumn race, Tre Valli Varesine, the riders of Team Jumbo-Visma Women did not manage to get a top classification. The yellow and black team was still well-represented in the last local lap but could not keep up with the pace. German Liane Lippert crossed the line first in Varese.

The season's last race brought the riders from Busto Arsizio to Varese. Despite several attacks, no solid lead group emerged. With 26 kilometres to go, the race broke open. A group of thirteen riders gained a one-minute advantage. However, as the race neared the end, the peloton increased the pace, and the leaders were caught. The Jumbo-Visma riders were alert but missed out on the decisive breakaway.

"The riders rode as a team today"

Carmen Small

"The girls wanted to ride aggressively today and try to join the breakaway", explained race director Carmen Small. "Eva (Van Agt) could do that, but a crash prevented her from staying in front. After three laps, the peloton had regrouped mostly, and the girls gave everything they had to escape. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. The riders rode as a team today, but sometimes you need more to win."

For Team Jumbo-Visma Women, this was the last race of the season.
